Engagement
A safe workplace with focus on its employees
We strive to look after our employees and to create a diverse and inclusive work environment for everyone.
We focus on:
- Workplace safety: guaranteeing health of employees and safety on sites
- Human capital: building people who build business
- CSR awareness: motivating people to act on CSR issues
Safety & health
At Nexans, the safety, health and well-being of our employees is very important. That is why this is the first item on the agenda at every internal meeting.
It is a priority for Nexans that our employees in the factories and logistics centers in Belgium can do their work safely. We invest in safe machinery and make sure that the operators are well-trained. We ensure pathways are free from obstruction to prevent accidents, and we train our employees in operating forklifts.
Our goal is to reduce the number of serious accidents to zero. To achieve this, we organize a yearly Safety Week. This week is dedicated to informing and training employees in safe practices. There is also room for input from personnel, so that Nexans has a clear picture of remaining issues.
Healthy employees make a healthy business. That is why Nexans Netherlands promotes excersising by providing a gym membership with discount (company fitness programme).
To safeguard the (mental) health of our employees and create a safe work environment, Nexans Netherlands provides its employees an extern counsellor. This way the safety and health of our personnel is ensured.
Diversity & inclusivity
Nexans welcomes and respects everyone's differnences and individuality. We promote equal opportunities and foster an inclusive culture amongst all employees. The Group believes that a diverse workforce stimulates innovations, increases engagement and improves business performances. Nexans' board of directors also reflects this diversity: the 10 members come from 4 different countries. This also applies to Nexans' head office, where people of more than 30 different nationalities work together.
Regardless of our gender, age, origin, sexual orientation and abilities, we are all united across our differences and have the same goal: Electrify The Future. This diversity makes us stronger and expands our horizons. Our policy to eradicate all forms of discrimination includes fighting for gender equality, integrating young people and senior citizens, people with disabilities and people with diverse sexual orientations. We also provide the possibility of specialist training.
Our Inclusion and Diversity Policy aims to create a workplace environment that values and respects individual differences, promotes equal opportunities, and fosters a culture of inclusion for all employees. Download the full document here.
We in Nexans stimulates our Inclusion and Diversity (I&D)
The WiN (We in Nexans) in-house network, which we set up in 2018, brings together people from various functions and levels in the Group’s organization. It addresses all the issues associated with inclusion and diversity, in conjunction with our policy in this area. This network is active in all our business groups and business units, and encourages inclusion and diversity through various local and global initiatives, which include celebrating International Women’s Day, Pride Month and International Day of Persons with Disabilities. WiN also developed the first in-house class on unconscious bias, and organizes mentorship programs and numerous events at local level.
An I&D dashboard sets measurable objectives and tracks our progress on the inclusion and diversity front. We provide updates on our action in our ESG report and our E3 (Economy, Environment, Engagement) performance dashboard.

Raising awareness among employees
Nexans' goals and roadmap for contributing to carbon neutrality form the subject of intense communication operations.
For example, Climate Day, held in September 2020, was the subject of a special issue of the in-house magazine, and was followed up by an awareness-raising campaign which took the form of posters entitled “Did you know?” and interviews filmed around the world reporting on actions for the planet taken by employees.
Another annual unifying event within the Group is the Fresque du Climat. This educational, fun and collaborative tool, which took place in the form of workshops, brought together groups of colleagues and highlighted the links between climate change and human activities.
