Sustainability at Nexans
We have several reasons to invest in sustainability.
And many reasons to hurry.
Quick links to our CSR pages:
In 2024, Nexans has been recognized as European Climate Leader, a prestigious list annually composed by the Financial Times and Statista. Read more about Nexans as European Climate Leader.
The E3 model
In 2022, the Group introduced a new model for corporate social responsibility: the E3 model. This model focuses on 3 pillars: Engagement, Environment and Economy.
The safety, health and well-being of our employees is very important to us. That is why 'Engagement' is the first of our top priorities.
In our E3 model, 'Environment' is one of our three top priorities of our CSR-policy. We are convinced of the necessity to protect the planet for are current and future generations.
Our business succes has a close relation to the power of our quality relations with stakeholders, such as customers, partners, suppliers and investors. This is very important to us. That is why 'Economy' is our third top priority. Read more on Economy.
A sustainable future also means....
Towards the sustainable electrification of the world
Electrifying the future is our raison d’être. As a global player in the energy transition, Nexans has been playing a crucial role in the electrification of the planet for over a century. We amplify this role by leading the change towards the new world of electrification — a safer, more sustainable, renewable, carbon-free world, accessible to all.
Electrifying the future means working towards a sustainable future by helping to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.
Electrifying the future means becoming a “pure player” in electrification across our entire value chain — electricity production, transmission, distribution and use.
Transparency is important to us. That's why we dedicated a page to the steps Nexans takes to become more sustainable.
A sustainable, innovative and competitive business model
Because we want our products to be increasingly competitive, innovative and sustainable, we place our expertise and inventiveness at the service of the energy transition on a daily basis. By focusing on innovation and optimising resources, we contribute to a circular and sustainable economy.
Innovation, a leverage point in the energy transition
Local initiatives
For several years now, there have been a few wind turbines on our site in Buizingen (Belgium). Currently, 35% of the factory's electricity needs are generated by wind energy. Rainwater is also collected and used as cooling water in the production of cables. The water in these cooling baths is in a closed system, which helps us prevent environmental impact, such as the discharge of warm water.
Cables are delivered on drums, in carton boxes or on rolls in foil packaging. As a member of Brancheplan Verpakkingen (Packaging Industry Plan), Nexans aims to actively reduce packaging materials and make them more sustainable. Our wooden drums are made of PEFC wood and empty drums are collected and reused in the production process. We now also opt for drums made from recycled plastic, as with MOBIWAY MOB. Since 2024, we have been using a foil that contains 30% PCR recycled material.
