Nexans' installation cables are now UV-resistant
May 19, 2021Constructions are becoming increasingly complex, often with several building units that need to be interconnected. This includes the electrification of our energy supply, like the use of solar panels and electric cars. As as result a growing number of cables is coming in direct contact with sunlight. UV resistance of cables is therefore an increasingly important product feature, because otherwise as an installer you always have to fall back on covering the cable route, laying in tube, or connecting it to UV-resistant cables in order to bridge the outdoor route.
Thanks to Nexans installation cables this is no longer needed. Our cables passed the 720 hour test according to the test standard EN 50289-4-17 Method A, which makes the cables perfectly suitable for outdoor use in our Dutch climate.
This is archievable with the standard YMvK Dca, however, our low smoke halogen-free ALSECURE YMz1K Cca and ALSECURE YMz1K B2ca are also fully compliant to this test standard. These cables have an improved fire response while not sacrificing ease of use. When protecting lives and sensitive electronic equipment is important, selecting the appropriate cables is essential. Nexans' halogen-free ALSECURE YMz1K Cca and B2ca cables emit less toxic smoke in the event of a fire, facilitating evacuations and limiting additional smoke damage to expensive installations. They are suitable for use in installations in industrial, residential and tertiary environments.
UV rays shorten the service life by accelerating the ageing process of the cable sheathing, which becomes brittle. In time, this will cause tiny cracks through which moisture can seep, which in turn will eventually cause short circuits.
